The season of giving is upon us and we would like to kick-off the holidays by shining our light on the WakaWaka Foundation; an internationally operated non-profit organization based in the Netherlands. With a simple source of solar powered light, they’re illuminating the darkest corners of the world where electricity is not accessible, making a lasting impact on local communities and providing relief in humanitarian aid situations.
In rural areas where electricity is unavailable, it’s normal for people to rely on traditional yet hazardous light sources, such as kerosene or candles. The WakaWaka Foundation offers training and awareness events to educate communities on the importance of sustainable solar energy and how it can be incorporated into education, business and everyday life.
The latest #SharetheSun project gives our Agents of Light community the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of safe and sustainable solar energy in Rwanda, where 76% of the population lives without electricity.
With this ground-breaking project, your generosity will support the training of unemployed Rwandan youth to become ‘solar entrepreneurs.’ The solar entrepreneurs will raise awareness within their communities about the dangers of traditional lighting and the benefits of solar energy. This will help improve the living conditions of the Rwandan people by giving them access to safe and sustainable energy. Simultaneously, unemployed youth learn about the business and are equipped with the necessary tools to embark on a career in solar energy.
